Harmony in Heritage 2025

Progressive Intercultural Community Services (PICS) Society was honoured to host Harmony in Heritage on Friday, August 29, 2025, at the Surrey Arts Gallery, bringing together community members to celebrate cultural diversity, unity, and creativity.

The event opened with a moving Indigenous Ceremony, featuring land acknowledgment, traditional singing, and drumming, followed by heartfelt welcome remarks from community leaders such as Satbir Cheema, CEO & President of PICS Society. Throughout the morning, attendees were captivated by a rich lineup of performances and cultural showcases, including:

  • Ukrainian Dance Performances & Fashion Show – vibrant displays of Ukrainian folk traditions and heritage.
  • Gidha & Bhangra by SFU Students – energetic Punjabi cultural dances full of rhythm, joy, and celebration.
  • Reflections from Guest Speaker Geetanjali Sharma – inspiring insights on how culture shapes identity and community.
  • Gu Zheng Performances & Chinese Kung Fu (Shaolin Boxing) – a unique blend of traditional Chinese music and martial arts, weaving together melody and strength.
  • Bharatanatyam Dance – a graceful South Indian classical performance, combining storytelling with cultural expression.

Together, these performances created a powerful celebration of multiculturalism, reminding us of the beauty found in our shared traditions and collective spirit. PICS extends its heartfelt thanks to the performers, partners, volunteers, and attendees who made this day such a memorable success.

We look forward to continuing to build spaces where cultures connect, communities thrive, and diversity is celebrated.
