2024 Year-End Highlights

  1. PICS Society raised over $200,000 for long-term senior’s care facility during its Fundraising Gala. The evening was graced by the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including Her Honour, the Honourable Janet Austin, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, and Honourable David Eby, Premier of British Columbia.
  2. Historic Ground-Breaking Ceremony marked a Milestone for the PICS Guru Nanak Diversity Village Project. This project is set to become one of the largest community developments in Canada, funded by the government to support seniors, and also amongst the largest global projects named after Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Construction of the facility has already begun and is expected to be completed by fall 2026. Out of the $5 million fundraising target, PICS Society has successfully raised $4.7 million so far.
  3. The GNDV ground-breaking ceremony was covered in national as well as international print media, including Indian Express News.
  4. PICS Society Celebrated Raj Brar’s Appointment to the Board of Directors of the Women’s Economic Council of Canada.
  5. PICS Surrey & Vancouver Mega Job Fair set new standards for employment opportunities.
  6. Progressive Intercultural Community Services (PICS) Society proudly announced the successful opening of its new office in Prince George, BC, located at Unit 203 – 715 Victoria Street.
  7. Arrival of a New Electric Bus at PICS Assisted Living, funded by the Ministry of Health.
  8. Unveiling of the PICS Media Room at its Surrey Head Office to connect the community.
  9. PICS Seniors Programs (Digital Skills for Seniors, Better at Home, and IISPP) provided ongoing workshops, in-home supports, and seniors fairs. These events helped alleviate seniors’ isolation, which is a growing concern across Canada.
  10. Neena Randhawa, Director of Women's Programs and Initiatives, represented PICS at a federal government meeting to discuss women’s housing issues in Ottawa and Montreal.
  11. Received $1.5 million in federal funding over four years for its immigrant women in trades apprenticeship program.
  12. Appointed two new directors to its leadership team: Dr. Raminder Kang, Director of Settlement & Integration Services, and Kanika Mehra, Director of Youth Programs and Community Services.
  13. PICS Settlement & Integration Program (IRCC funded) got funding approval for the next three years (2025/26 - 2027/28) for Surrey/Delta and Prince George.
  14. The Adult Day Program received an expansion from 132 spaces a week to 300 spaces a week approved by Fraser Health Authority.
  15. Signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with esteemed organizations, including the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) and the Consulate General of Mexico, to enhance support for skilled immigrants, international students, and professionals in their career journeys.
  16. Phalak Betab, Marketing, Communications, & Fundraising officer, got recognised in “15 Women of Influence Breaking Barriers” by Drishti magazine.
  17. Ranbir Manj, Board Chair, was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at The Times of Canada Diwali Gala 2024.
  18. Devinder Chattha, Senior Director of Language, Settlement & Social Programs, got awarded the Drishti Inspirational Women Award for her reflection of diversity and inclusion at the Drishti Women’s Golf Event 2024.
  19. Raj Hundal, Senior Director of Employment, Planning & Program Development, was selected as a recipient of the "Top 10 BC Immigrant Award 2024" by Global Lifestyle Expo.
  20. PICS Society got nominated for Business Excellence Awards in Prince George.
  21. Organized a Health Sector Conference in Kerala, India.
  22. Various events were organised, including Anti-Racism Art Exhibition at the Surrey City Hall, PICS Society Indigenous Cultural Event, BC Seniors National Week, Active August: Basketball Camp, REACH for Drug & Gang-Free Communities, Unity through Culture, and more.
  23. Participated in the Vancouver & Surrey Vaisakhi Parades to celebrate Sikh culture and heritage.
  24. PICS Society was recognised at the Parliament twice, thanks to mentions by MP Don Davies and MP Randeep S. Sarai.
  25. PICS Society’s Delta Office Branch increased support for settlement and employment services.

    • The Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship of Canada, and Sukh Dhaliwal, Member of the House of Commons of Canada
    • Mr. Malkiat Singh, who summited the 8,848.86 m high Mount Everest, becoming the latest New Zealander to achieve the feat.
    • Chief Constable Norm Lipinski with team members Jag Khosa and Sukhprit Singh Sidhu from Surrey Police Service
    • Mr. Frank Baylis, former Member of House of Commons
    • Mr. Pratap Singh Bajwa, Member of the Legislative Assembly for Punjab in India

    • Consul General of India in Vancouver - Mr. Manish, visited the PICS Society head office for his farewell tour to say goodbye.

    • Discussion with Canada’s Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Minister Marc Miller, hosted by Surrey Board of Trade
  28. Organized the Winter Homeless Drive in collaboration with the International Student Union.
  29. PICS Society Celebrated 26 Years of Leadership Excellence as Satbir Cheema, the esteemed President and CEO, commemorated 26 years of dedicated service and visionary leadership at PICS. He was recognised and featured on the front cover of Drishti Magazine & Times of Canada for the same.
