Community Adult Literacy Program

About CAL Program

Community Adult Literacy Program provides Free English classes for Newcomers, Citizens, Work Permit holders and Refugee Claimants aged 19+. Participants learn about the Canadian work culture such as resume writing, cover letter, job search, interview skills and work expectations. Students work and speak in pair or group activities. Daily news events, learning about the Canadian Culture and other topics of interest are part of the learning program too. One on one assistance is available from trained volunteer teachers. This program focuses on both foundation and vocational skills. Free childcare is available for students with children at our head office during session times.

Classes run every Friday with continuous intake.

Eligibility Criteria

Immigration Status + Current resident of BC

  • Canadian Citizen
  • Permanent Resident
  • Refugee with Court Notice of Decision
  • Work Permit Holder
  • Low Literacy and Numeracy Skills
