About IRCC Program

This project funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) offers settlement and integration services in Prince George to IRCC eligible clients with the overall goal to ensure that the settlement and integration needs of newcomers are met in order to enhance their social and economic integration

Main Services

Needs Assessment and Referrals 

Eligible newcomers receive needs and assets assessment to address the challenges they face to settle and integrate into Canadian Society. Clients with more complex transitional issues are assisted by developing a comprehensive settlement plan to address their individualized needs and barriers. 

Information and Orientation – One-on-One  

Newcomers are provided with necessary, accurate, and customized information related to settlement issues through one-on-one, family, and group sessions. These sessions facilitate informed decision-making by helping new immigrants understand Canadian systems. Topics covered include various aspects of settling into life in Canada related to finance, education, health and legal systems as well as women’s rights, civic engagement, and more.

Employment Related Services

  • Individual Employment Counselling
    Counselling Services offers various aspects of career development and job search to help the newcomers to explore career options, set career goals, develop job-search skills, and overcome barriers to employment and to navigate the job market successfully to obtain sustainable employment. Newcomers receive one on one support to acquire and utilize skills/ tools for labor market attachment such as resume writing, interview preparation, networking, etc.
  • Employment Workshops
    The Employment Workshops covers the topics related to the job search/employment such as resume and cover letter writing, interview tips, social media use, personal development skills, volunteering, networking and informational interviews.
  • Work Experience
    The newcomers receive information based on their experiences, skills, and qualifications about the potential employers for their paid work placement opportunities.
  • Networking and Resume Screening
    This activity focuses on guiding clients in adapting and refining their resumes based on their skill set and unique demands of each job description. The Eligible newcomers connects with other professionals and employers that allow them to be present in an environment (in person and/or virtually) with their professional peers and potential employers.

Eligibility Criteria

Immigration Status + Current resident of Prince George, BC 

  • Permanent Residents of Canada
  • Protected Persons as defined in Section 95 of IRPA
  • Individuals who have been selected, inside or outside Canada, to become permanent residents (pending verifications) and who have been informed, by a letter from Citizenship and Immigration Canada
  • Convention refugees and protected persons outside Canada who have been selected for resettlement in Canada by Citizenship and Immigration Canada
  • Temporary Foreign Workers who hold or received approval of a work permit under section 112 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR) or received initial approval for permanent residence under section 113 of the IRPR are eligible for Settlement Services
