Choose to Move
About Choose to Move Program
Choose to Move is a free, flexible program designed to help older adults become more physically active and socially connected. Over three months, participants work with a trained coach to create personalized activity plans based on their needs, interests, and abilities.
Seniors can pick and choose activities that they are inclined towards. These activities range from community fitness classes like Tai Chi and chair yoga to informal activities like gardening and walking. Social activities, such as quilting clubs, can also be included.
Participants can also choose to incorporate social-focused activities (e.g., quilting club) into their action plans. Participants learn to monitor and adjust their goals and activities–a lifelong skill–with support from their activity coach.
Group meetings (10-15 participants) foster connections, offering a space to share ideas and experiences on topics like nutrition and stress management. At PICS, Choose to Move is offered in Punjabi for South Asian women, supporting their health and social engagement.
Duration – Each cohort is scheduled for a span of 12 weeks.
Eligibility – 55+ years old, Lower mainland. (This program is only for women)
Operational Hours – Tuesdays, 10:00 – 12:00
*Note: Choose to Move is not a fitness class. It is a support program designed to educate seniors and provide them with resources to stay active.
