About General PBLMT Program

The Construction Trades Training is a 15 week program that includes a Red Seal Occupational Standard (RSOS), Language & Essential skills, Red Seal upgrading carpentry, electrical or plumbing training, Inter-Provincial Red Seal Exam, work experience with employers, and job search and placement support. This program helps professionals with 4-5 years of experience in the field (gained in Canada or overseas) get their Trade Ticket.

Training Information

This is 15 weeks long program which includes:

  • E1 week of Red Seal Occupatioal Stndards (RSOS), Language and essentials skills
  • E8 weeks of Red Seal upgrading training (Carpentry, Electrical or Plumbing)
  • E1 week review/write Inter-Provincial Red Seal Exam
  • E4 weeks of work experience with employers
  • E1 week of job search and placement support follow-up

Eligibility Criteria

Immigration Status + Current resident of BC

  • Canadian Citizen
  • Permanent Resident
  • Refugee with Court Notice of Decision

Employment Status

  • Unemployed
  • Casual/ on-call Employed (less than 20 hours per week)
  • Part-Time Employed (less than 20 hours per week)

EI Eligibility

  • BCEA PWD Clients
  • BCEA Non-PWD Clients (Income Assistance)
  • Active Regular Employment Insurance (EI) Benefits
  • EI Reachback: have had Regular EI benefits within the previous 60 months
  • Worked full-time for at least any 5 years out of the last 10 years in Canada + have earned more than $2,000 in insurable earnings and have paid Employee EI premiums on those earnings in at least 5 of the last 10 years (Note: the 5 years do not have to be consecutive years)

WorkBC Case Management

  • WorkBC Case Manager confirmed your eligibility and submitted your application to the Ministry. The case Manager sends an approval email to PICS before the start of the program.
