Cultural Exchange Photography Project
PICS aims to provide newcomer women of all ages, residing in different communities of Surrey, an opportunity to learn about Canadian arts and culture in order to assist them in integration. PICS will also provide activities that encourage women to express their ethnic culture and art. This will be a women’s only project so they can express their art comfortably through photography, dance and fashion designing.
Specific activities that we plan facilitating for the cultural exchange project include the popular photovoice art, in which, the participant’s experiences of hardship are displayed through photography with written or auditory explanations. Our Mission is to promote harmony and intercultural understanding for the purpose of building a more inclusive and mutually respectful society. No other project with this objective of preserving Western and traditional arts & culture is available in Surrey-a municipality with the highest number of newcomers in all of metro Vancouver.
