CALP – Community Adult Literacy Program Learn with a Friend

Are you looking for a free one-on-one tutor to improve your English language skills? If you are struggling with basic reading, writing, listening and speaking tasks, you might want to avail of our Community Adult Literacy Program – CALP – which can provide you with a tutor once a week at a local library.

Under this CALP program, PICS trains local volunteers to help learners of Basic English language requirements. We match volunteers with learners to meet for two hours once a week at a location and time convenient for both parties. Usually, these meetings take place at a local library in Surrey. Topics of each session are driven by learners’ needs and desires, encompassing one or all four skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Adults with higher English language needs will be referred to our partner Kwantlen Polytechnic University that offers free group sessions covering the Canadian labour market.

Eligibility: adults over 19 years.
