PICS Presents RED FM Appreciation Plaque

PICS has thanked local radio station RED FM for graciously hosting a radiothon in support of PICS Diversity Village. President of RED FM Mr. Kulwinder Sanghera along with General Manager Bijoy Samuel and radio host Pooja Sekhon accepted the plaque presented to them by PICS CEO Mr. Charan Gill and President of PICS Board of Directors Bobby Pawar.

Federal Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, Hon. Amarjeet Sohi visited PICS Head Office and PICS Assisted living in Surrey last week. He showed keen interest in the work that PICS does and was extremely supportive of PICS new Project, PICS Diversity Village.

Flurry of Activity at PICS Childcare

Mission of PICS daycare is not only to give children a safe, friendly environment to be in but also to get a well-rounded early start in life. They learn valuable skills such as sharing and social interaction and also participate in various carefully crafted activities.

Fifty Four children Participate in PICS Summer Camp 2016!

Fifty Four children between the ages of 6-12 participated in the PICS Summer camp held in July. To say that the camp was a tremendous success would certainly be an understatement. The Summer program for kids was divided into two camps with 27 kids in each camp.

Provincial Ministers, MLA visit PICS Assisted Living Facility in Surrey

Minister of Community, Sport, Cultural Development and Minister Responsible for Translink, Peter Fassbender; Minister of Technology, Innovation and Citizens' Services, Amrik Virk; MLA Marvin Hunt and a representative from Minister of Children and Family Development Stephanie Cadieux's office recently visited PICS Assisted Living for a tour of the facility.

PICS Receives $500,000 for 75 Child Care Spaces in Cloverdale

Progressive Intercultural Community Services Society has received $500,000 from the provincial government to create 75 child care spaces in their new state-of-the-art long term care home PICS Diversity Village that will be built in Cloverdale soon. MLA Stephanie Cadieux, MLA for Surrey-Cloverdale has announced that PICS is one of six Surrey organizations to receive funding from the Provincial Government. As part of Child-Care Month in British Columbia the government is investing $1.22 million under the B.C. Early Years Strategy to create 280 new licensed child-care spaces at these facilities for families in Surrey.

PICS at Vaisakhi Celebrations

PICS had a strong presence in both the Vaisakhi parades this year. Hundreds of people visited our booth and sought out information about our various programs. People showed interest in PICS Newest project the PICS Diversity Village and promised to help. And of course they were delighted to take away with them some of PICS' super promotional materials!

Twenty Five Future Entrepreneurs Graduate from PICS BEST Program

Twenty Five future entrepreneurs were handed out their certificates at the Business Entrepreneurial Start-up Training Programs (BEST) graduation ceremony at PICS Head Office recently. The ceremony was attended by MP Ken Hardie (Surrey-Port Kells), representatives from MP John Aldag (Cloverdale-Langley City) and Minister Peter Fassbender’s (Community, Sport and Cultural Development and Minister Responsible for TransLink) office; and Work BC Centre case managers.

Humjoli Women’s Group Celebrates Vaisakhi

Humjoli, Better at Home’s social initiative program for South Asian Women celebrated Vaisakhi at PICS Head Office this week. Women dressed in colourful Vaisakhi colours had a hearty celebration with singing, dancing and discussing the significance of the festival.

Cookie Love at PICS

The world after all is not such a bad place. While everyone is trashing and admonishing a certain someone who made racist remarks against Vancouver City Park Board Commissioner Nikki Sharma, currently running for a seat on the board of Vancity Credit Union, a kind gentleman visited PICS today to donate a whopping 180 boxes of butter cookies to PICS clients comprising Syrian refugees and their children, women at Harmony House and seniors at PICS Assisted Living Facility and Day Care Program.
