Immigrant PLEI Consortium Project


What is PLEI?

The Immigrant Public Legal Education and Information (PLEI) Consortium Project is a collaborative, pilot project that aims to provide free legal education and resources to immigrants in Metro Vancouver. The goal is to improve the delivery of public legal education and information to enable immigrants to address their legal needs and have a better awareness of core Canadian legal values.
 
The Immigrant PLEI Consortium comprises of 12 Lower Mainland agencies which include the PLEI Providers namely Justice Education Society (JES), Legal Services Society (LSS), People's Law School, and Tenant Resource and Advisory Centre (TRAC), as well as settlement agencies namely DiverseCity, MOSAIC, Immigrant Services Society of BC (ISS), North Shore Multicultural Society (NSMS), OPTIONS Surrey Community Services Society, S.U.C.C.E.S.S., Progressive Intercultural Community Services (PICS), and the Vancouver & Lower Mainland Multicultural Family Support Services Society (VLMFSS).

 

Year 1: Employment Law and Residential Tenancy Law

The Immigrant PLEI Consortium Project has developed www.ImmigrantLegal.ca, which provides the following resources on the topics of Employment Standards and Residential Tenancy:
  • a comprehensive, easy-to-use Map Directory of service organizations in Metro Vancouver, which can be searched by region and/or language
  • reader-friendly multilingual Fact sheets
  • access to important, commonly used Forms
  • educational Videos featuring presentations by Employment Standards Branch, West Coast Domestic Workers' Association, Tenant Resource & Advisory Centre (TRAC), Residential Tenancy Branch (RTB), and BC Apartment Owners and Managers Association (BCAOMA)
  • Frequently Asked Questions
  • a broad range of Online Resources.
