Humjoli,  Better at Home’s social initiative program for South Asian Women celebrated Vaisakhi at PICS Head Office this week. Women dressed in colourful Vaisakhi colours had a hearty celebration with singing, dancing and discussing the significance of the festival. Humjoli meets once every week to socialize, talk about their issues and learn from each other’s experiences. Better at Home is a program managed by United Way and run by PICS in South Vancouver and Surrey. The program with a strong emphasis on socializing and spreading awareness has kept women engaged and away from diseases such as depression which can creep in as women sometimes find themselves increasingly isolated as they pass through middle age.
